WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE MINI-ME TREND
Everyone is talking about Mini Me, which, to put it bluntly, means matching your child's look. Many big fashion names have, of course, been designing children's collections for a long time. But shrinking prèt-à-porter to children's sizes is a more recent phenomenon.
Kidswear has also long since made it to the big stage - for example at Dolce & Gabbana. The two designers have often sent mothers and their daughters down the catwalk in perfectly coordinated flower print dresses.
What can we say - even the most famous ice queens in the fashion world always melt at the sight of this. But the undeniable cuteness factor is not the only reason why Mini Me is a favorite trend for Nicki. Me and Mini Me: it's a perfect match - and a way of life!
WHEN DID THIS START?
2017. In China, where celebrities are great role models. When actress Huo Siyan posted a photo of her son Du Yuqi in a mini version of her husband's tuxedo, demand for Baby Dior exploded.
Since then, labels such as Burberry and Ralph Lauren Chinese kidfluencers have long been strategically targeting them. Or rather, the children of influencers, such as Gogoboi. The hype started in the same year with Beyoncé and her then five-year-old daughter Blue Ivy. The two appeared at various events in matching Gucci dresses.
Other fans of mini-me dressing: Kim Kardashian, who wore matchy looks by Vetements and Givenchy shares, Victoria Beckham and: Chrissy Teigen. When she and her daughter wore identical onesies for a photo shoot for a cookbook that same year, they sold out immediately. Probably because they were printed with avocados, another big millennial passion.
ARE THESE REALLY IDENTICAL OUTFITS?
Of course not. After all, you can't just transfer an evening dress to a child's body. Mini-Me looks are cut to suit children, but made from the same materials as the big model. That's a good thing, because we at Nickis believe that everyone should feel comfortable (and be able to jump around wildly in their outfit).
WHY IS THE TREND GETTING BIGGER?
Because of the current generation of parents. The more digital natives become parents, the more natural it becomes for children to be present on Instagram & Co. After all, they tell their children's stories digitally from the very beginning, usually from the pregnancy onwards. In social media terms, this is called "sharenting".
The millennial generation is also much more aware of high quality and sustainability. The fact that a child quickly outgrows their wardrobe is no longer an argument for fast fashion. But it is actually much simpler: children are part of us! And this cannot be emphasized enough.
WHY DO WE HAVE SO MUCH FUN WITH NICKIS MINI-ME-DRESSING?
Because it creates a feeling of togetherness. Would people who don't love each other more than anything coordinate their fashion choices? Definitely not.
And in times when individuality is celebrated more than ever - and sometimes defended with elbow grease - coordinated looks are probably a sign of real strength: together we are strong! There is no more important message you can give children.
