WHAT SHOULD NOT BE MISSED

1. CLOTHING: BABY'S FIRST WARDROBE
Oh, how sweet! Cute baby clothes simply puts a smile on everyone's face. Parents in particular can't get enough of the little socks, hats and rompers and would love to put everything in their shopping cart.
But wait - babies don't need that much in the first few months:
- 4 to 6 wrap bodysuits in sizes 50 to 62 (long and/or short sleeves depending on the season)
- 4 to 6 rompers in sizes 50 to 62
- 6 tops in sizes 50 to 62 (depending on the season, T-shirts and/or sweaters)
- 6 cardigans in sizes 50 to 62
- 3 to 4 pairs of thin and 3 to 4 pairs of thick socks
- 1 to 2 pairs of tights
- 2 hat
- 1 to 2 jackets (thick and/or thin depending on the season)
- 3 to 4 pairs of pull-on pants
- 3 to 4 pajamas
- 1 sleeping bag
- 1 pair of gloves for winter
The most important thing about baby clothes is that they are functional and of high quality. Choose comfortable clothes made of soft, natural materials such as cotton, wool or silk. These are ideal for your baby's sensitive skin and will keep your little one nice and warm. At the same time, they allow the baby's skin to breathe so that your little one doesn't sweat.
Wide necklines and clever openings on the shoulders and crotch make it easy to dress and undress the baby and change diapers. To remove any harmful substances from the materials, you should also wash the baby clothes before wearing them for the first time.
2. THE MOST IMPORTANT ACCESSORIES FOR BABY CARE
When it comes to baby care, “less is more”. In the first few weeks after birth, baby skin is still very sensitive, so warm water and a soft washcloth are perfectly adequate for washing.
After a few months, you can expand the baby's initial equipment with a few care items:
- baby bathtub
- bath thermometer
- baby nail scissors
- Soft baby brush
- 5 to 10 washcloths or wash towels
- 2 hooded bath towels
- thermometer
A proper changing area is a must for changing diapers. It is best to set this up on a changing table or changing dresser, as this means you have all the necessary utensils within easy reach in one place. When buying the dresser or table, make sure that it is stable and suitable for your body size.
Drawers or baskets that you place under or on the shelf provide sufficient storage space. The basic changing equipment also includes:
- Washable, padded changing mat
- 4 to 5 flannel cloths as a base
- diapers
- care wipes
- wound protection cream
- Lockable diaper pail
- baby oil
- possibly heat lamp
3. INITIAL EQUIPMENT FOR BREASTFEEDING AND FEEDING
Proper nutrition is essential for your child to grow big and strong. Breastfeeding your baby is particularly important in the first six months, as breast milk provides all the essential nutrients your little one needs for its development.
From the fifth month onwards, the baby can slowly be fed solid food and breastfeeding is gradually replaced by this. To make breastfeeding as pleasant as possible for you and your child, the following items should be included in the baby's initial equipment:
- 2 to 3 nursing bras
- at least 1 nursing pillow
- nursing tops
- nursing pads
- breast pump
- nursing cover
- nipple ointment
- 4 to 6 muslin diapers for burping
If breastfeeding is not working or you do not want to breastfeed, you can feed your child with infant formula. You can do this with the following items:
- 6 plastic or glass bottles with age-appropriate teats
- bottle brush
- thermos flask
4. BABY EQUIPMENT FOR ON THE GO
Immediately after the birth, you and your baby will probably not leave the house very often. But when you do go outside for your first walks together, you should not do without a few little helpers:
- baby car seat
- stroller with rain and/or sun protection
- diaper bag
- footmuff
- Ceiling
- baby carrier or sling
- toys for on the go
THE MUST-HAVES FOR THE BABY'S ROOM
For many parents-to-be, designing baby's first own kingdom is one of the absolute highlights in the time before the birth. Whether you take care of the furnishing yourself or order a complete room - these baby equipment must not be missing:
- baby bed
- bassinet/baby cradle
- mattress
- fitted sheets and bed linen
- music box and mobile
- baby monitor
- play mat
- Indirect night light
- first toy (rattle, grasping toy, etc.)
HOW MUCH DOES THE BABY EQUIPMENT COST?
Rompers, changing equipment, etc. can be quite expensive - the first year of life is usually the most expensive. In total, you should expect to spend around 1,500 to 2,500 euros on the initial equipment for your baby.
But of course there are no upper limits here.
